Antonyms and Synonyms in Dagbani
Antonyms and Synonyms in Dagbani Language – Prominent in the oral literature of the Dagbamba is the use of a variety of antonyms and synonyms in communication.
The lunsi (drummer) who are the custodians of Dagbon tradition, have to internalize as many antonyms and synonyms as possible.
This is largely because, the ability of a luŋa to maneuver his way when he’s playing and singing the Gingaani, Biɛɣunaayo or Pampamli depends on his stock of vocabulary.
And great drummers are remembered by not only their ability to remember and report pass events but by their stock of vocabulary.
In normal day to day communication, a fair knowledge in synonym or antonyms makes one a good speaker.
